Grow As an Artist.
Gerard Curtis ’14
At Arcadia, I can pursue many different artistic directions since there are a variety of courses available to me. I can major in Graphic Design, while also pursuing my passion for painting and other fine arts. My major requires a number of studio courses such as sculpture, metals and jewelry, and ceramics, that also give me the opportunity to explore other areas of art.
In the courses I have taken so far, the professors have emphasized gaining a public understanding of how to convey your artistic message to others. Carol Loeffler, Assistant Professor of Art and Design, who I had for Drawing II, and David Campbell, Adjunct Professor of Art and Design, who I had for Foundations II, really inspired me because they were very enthusiastic about the classes. They were influential and helpful with their feedback.
Arcadia’s study abroad opportunities really appeal to me, and I plan to spend a semester in Florence, which is considered Italy’s art capital. I just completed an Art History course that was very inspiring, and I want to see the art I studied firsthand. I’m ready to explore other styles to find my own place as an artist.
