Push Yourself Further.
Justin Vergara ’12
Being able to look back and remember the contributions that I made and the people I met along the way puts a smile on my face.
I merged my Business skills and passion for service by working in Arcadia’s Community Service Office. In addition to managing the budget book and ensuring that there were enough funds in each account to buy materials and marketing supplies for an event, I also helped to organize several events, including the 2012 community wide Pack-A-Thon, the 2010 Alternative Spring Break, Empty Bowl Dinner, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and Dr. Suess Day.
What I liked best about being involved with community service here on campus is the sense of leadership and teamwork. After months of planning and preparing for an event, at the end of the day, watching the event run successfully and smoothly is a very rewarding experience. It’s an amazing feeling knowing what you’re capable of. Year after year, you just want to step up your game to reach new goals and push yourself even further.
Coordinating Arcadia’s annual Alternative Spring Break was a highlight of my undergraduate experience. Spending a week in a community to help rebuild houses and communities was eye-opening, and it constantly reminds me to never take anything I have for granted.
