Study Abroad in Canterbury, New Zealand
Home to New Zealand's highest mountain (Mt. Cook), rolling farmland, and many rivers and beaches, the region of Canterbury offers students a wide range of opportunities for exploring New Zealand’s natural beauty. Lincoln University is located approximately fifteen miles south of Christchurch, where students can catch a regional rugby match or hop on a plane to visit other parts of New Zealand and the Pacific. The university is surrounded by farmland, with mountain views in the distance and easy access to the coast.
The highest point of New Zealand, Aoraki/Mount Cook, stands at 3,754 meters ("Aoraki" is Maori for "cloud piercer"). The National Park which is named after this mountain is home to nineteen peaks over 3,000 meters and offers myriad challenges to climbers and hikers. No fewer than five ski fields are less than 90 minutes away. The beautiful surf beaches of Sumner, Brighton and Taylor’s Mistake (a popular surf spot among locals) are also nearby.
