Resident Director, Mediterranean Center for Arts and Sciences
Lucia Ortisi graduated in Law and Jurisprudence from Catania University in 1987. She defended her thesis in Public International Law entitled: “Responsibility and Liability of the States for Transfrontalier Pollution” in Italian, French and English. While working as a legal trainee she undertook postgraduate studies in Italian civil law and court procedures in Rome at Università La Sapienza.
She obtained her professional qualification in 1991 and proceeded to work for international companies in Africa, the Middle East and Europe within different areas of commercial law.
Returning to her Sicilian roots in 2000, Lucia founded the Mediterranean Center for Arts and Sciences focusing on environmental and social science studies. During this time, she was appointed as a Consultant for the City Council of Siracusa and advised on multi-cultural projects sponsored by the European Union.
Her research has concentrated on transnational organized crime. Lucia has developed and teaches Mafia and Politic at the Mediterranean Center for Arts and Sciences in collaboration with prominent magistrates and officers from the D.I.A, Direzione Investigativa Antimafia.
