  • Combines an internship in social development or the private sector in Cape Town with coursework

  • Program offered in conjunction with SHAWCO (Students' Health and Welfare Centres Organisation), an organization founded and governed by the students of the University of Cape Town

  • Learn about the public, private, and social sectors while developing an understanding of social responsibility

Program

This experience-based program features an internship in either the social development arena, or in businesses in Cape Town townships. Classes provide opportunity for theoretical reflection on this experience and for providing necessary contextual information on South Africa, development debates, the role of the various sectors of the economy and potential of social entrepreneurship to address issues faced in these communities. Assessment occurs through a range of methods such as class participation, internship performance, a longer academic term paper and a final presentation
