About the Università per Stranieri
The Università per Stranieri is also located in the heart of the old city, less than a ten-minute walk from the Umbra Institute. This is the oldest and most renowned university for foreigners in the country in Italy and has served as a model for Italian language teaching to other Italian institutions around the world. All classrooms, language labs, libraries and faculty offices are contained in this four-story edifice. From the top floor there's a spectacular view of the town and beyond. Indeed, on most days you can see across ten miles of the Umbrian countryside to the next Umbrian hill town - Assisi.
Perugia is the capital of the Umbria region, and host to a rich program of cultural events, shows, festivals, concerts and exhibitions. One third of the city's population is made up of Italian and international students who study at either the local Italian Università di Perugia, or the world-renowned Università per Stranieri. Their presence injects an international flavor to the Perugia experience.
At night, the city bursts into life with pedestrians happily scurrying to one of the many concerts, piano bars, jazz cafés or art exhibits. The universities also offer all students endless activities, many of which are free, including sports events, concerts, shows and films. This ensures not only that students have an exceptional cultural experience, but also have the opportunity to make friends with locals and students from around the globe.
