The picturesque campus, over 160 years old, is a mere 10-15 minute walk or ride from the center of Galway. While classes are taught in English, the university maintains a strong commitment to the Irish language which you'll hear spoken on campus and throughout the local area.
You’ll be able to choose from the University's extensive variety of course offerings in the humanities, sciences, business, engineering and law. To make the most out of the study abroad experience, many students take advantage of courses in Irish history, language and culture.

In 2012, the university was awarded a prestigious five star rating from the QS Stars rating system and received the maximum ratings in several key areas including research, teaching, internationalisation, facilities, engagement and innovation.
Two special options for study abroad students are in service learning and practice-based learning of indigenous Irish music, song and dance.
