Study Abroad Scholarships

The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University is committed to an extensive scholarship program awarding more than $2 million annually. Eligibility is based on financial need and aims to help students for whom financial assistance can mean the difference between participation in an Arcadia program and staying home.

Amounts

• $250-2,500 for semester or year programs
• $250-750 for summer programs

Deadlines

Applications are received on a rolling basis according to the following schedule:

• Complete applications received by the 20th of the month will receive notification by the 1st *
• Complete applications received by the 5th of the month will receive notification by the 15th *

*Deadlines outside of scheduled business hours (8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Monday through Friday) will divert to the next business day.

  • The Society of the Sons of St. George provides scholarship money for students who will attend a university in England, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, can show English ancestry, and reside in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, or Chester counties in Pennsylvania or Camden, Burlington, or Gloucester counties in New Jersey. • Canterbury Study Abroad Awards
  • Canterbury University, New Zealand, is offering 8 special scholarship awards for students studying abroad Spring 2013, Fall 2013, or the Southern Hemisphere Academic Year 2013.
  • The specific scholarships include:One University of Canterbury-Arcadia Platinum Award – NZ$5,000; Three University of Canterbury-Arcadia Gold Awards – NZ$2,500; Four University of Canterbury-Arcadia Study Abroad Excellence Awards – NZ$1,250.
  • 50 additional awards will be available from Canterbury to any study abroad applicant and these awards will be for up to NZ$5,000.
  • University of Canterbury-Arcadia Awards will be based on a combination of academic merit and financial need.
  • To be considered for one of the additional Canterbury awards students must write an essay of less than 500 words. Students receiving either a University of Canterbury-Arcadia Award or on of the additional scholarships will be eligible for Arcadia University scholarships as well.
  • Amounts awarded for both University of Canterbury-Arcadia Awards and additional Canterbury awards will be deducted from the recipient's tuition fees.

• The University of Melbourne Scholarship

• The Gilman Scholarship Program
  • Students receiving a Pell Grant may be eligible for this scholarship which provides up to $5,000 for any semester abroad, including summer. Gilman scholarship recipients who apply for an Arcadia Scholarship are guaranteed an Arcadia scholarship of at least $1,000 for semester and year programs and $500 for summer programs.

• International Excellence Study Abroad Scholarships - Royal Holloway, University of London
  • Royal Holloway offers several International Excellence Study Abroad Scholarships. The scholarships are worth £500 for a Fall semester of study, £1,000 for a Spring semester, and £2,000 for an academic year of study.

• Study Abroad Excellence Awards - King's College, University of London
  • King’s College offers several Study Abroad Excellence Awards to distinguished study abroad students in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Students who have been accepted to the program at King’s College are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
  • Each Excellence Award is worth £2,500 for students studying one semester, or £3,500 for students studying for the whole academic year. The awards will be made to candidates of outstanding quality, who can best demonstrate how their time at King’s builds on their academic record, and how it will help fulfill their personal and academic ambitions.
  • It is important to note the awards are not made purely on the basis of high academic grades or GPA; the awards panel gives equal weighting to the personal statement.

• BUTEX North American Scholarships (United Kingdom)
  • The Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply, you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place at a U.K. university which is BUTEX affiliated. Your study abroad or exchange place must be for the academic year 2013/14 and your place must be for a minimum of one semester. Applications for students studying abroad during academic year 2013/14 are now being accepted and the deadline for all applications will be the 31st May 2013. The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.

• AASAP/UK Lord Acton Memorial Scholarship
  • Merit-based scholarship for student studying abroad in the United Kingdom who demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of the value of an international education. Application deadline is April 6, 2012.

• Cambridge PKP Summer Program Scholarship
  • This new scholarship in 2012 is available to students accepted to the Cambridge PKP Summer program. Pembroke and King's College will award four scholarships (amongst all PKP students) in the amount of £2312 (in 2012). This award will be credited in US dollars toward your Arcadia fees upon confirmation from Cambridge. To apply for this competitive award contact your Arcadia Program Manager.

• FEA Scholarship
  • The Fund for Education Abroad is offering 10 scholarships to students studying abroad for the summer 2014 term, fall 2014 or spring 2015 semesters. They have a strong preference, but are not limited to students studying a foreign language, participating in an academically rigorous program, attending in a non-traditional destination, and/or representing an under-represented group for education abroad, such as a minority, community college student, etc.
  • Please note: Applications are NOT currently being accepted. Our next application cycle will open in October 2013 and will be for students planning to study abroad in the 2014-2015 academic year (i.e., Summer 2014, Fall 2014, Spring 2015). • The Global Studies Grant for Student Travel and Study Abroad
  • Designed to support foreign language training and other academic studies abroad, this grant provides supplemental funds for American students who already are studying abroad under the auspices of an official study abroad program conducted by an accredited academic institution. GSF seeks to support a formative experience abroad for the recipient, who also must share this experience with others upon his or her return.
  • GSF is particularly interested in funding the study of strategically significant countries and languages. Among the most significant selection criteria are academic performance (as indicated in courses, grades, recommendations, and other achievements), program merit, and outreach potential. Grant recipients will be expected to acknowledge GSF's support, to report on their experiences, and to work with GSF to share those experiences as widely as possible.

• National Security Education Program (NSEP)
  • NSEP provides a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America & the Caribbean, and the Middle East).

  • Grants for students preparing to participate in the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service. Grants may be used toward study abroad.

• Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants
  • Undergraduates in all fields of study who attend an institution with an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter may apply for a study abroad grant. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded annually to support students seeking knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad.

• Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick
  • The Society of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick is seeking applications for the Society’s grants for students planning to spend a semester or full-year of study in Ireland or Northern Ireland. To be eligible applicants must be either a resident or student in the Delaware Valley area. Applicants must be in good academic standing with a cumulative average of at least 3.0 or B equivalent.*NOTE: There are other branches of The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick throughout America. Students outside of the Delaware Valley in Pennsylvania should do a search for a Society in their area and the scholarships they may offer. Other branch locations include San Diego, Los Angeles, New York, Cincinnati, and Morris County, New Jersey.Applicants must submit the following materials:-Official college transcript-Letter of recommendation from an academic advisor or a faculty member who has taught the student-Evidence of acceptance in a college-level program of study in Ireland (Arcadia acceptance letter or acceptance email is fine)-Brief essay (600-800 words) on one or more of the following topics. 1. How the program in Ireland will relate to the applicant’s studies at his or her present institution; 2. How the experience in Ireland will deepen the applicant’s understanding of Irish history and culture; 3. Why the applicant is interested in obtaining a Society grant. Each scholarship will be for at least $1,500. Complete applications must be postmarked by February 15. Acceptance and rejection letter will be announced by April 15. Scholarship recipients are required to submit a two-page report following their semester in Ireland. This should include a list of courses completed and a description of special experiences while studying abroad.
