About the Programs
The Nyerere Centre for Peace Research and Arcadia University are offering a unique study abroad/study exchange and field research opportunities in Tanzania. All programs are designed to offer students the opportunity to learn contemporary practices in a variety of fields by working directly with organizations and professionals in East Africa. Classes will be held at the Nyerere Centre for Peace Research located in the heart of Arusha, Tanzania and steps away from the Arusha International Conference Centre. Included in all programs will be weekend field trips to some of the most famous National parks in Africa, as well as, a visit to the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. Students will be supported by Arcadia University Faculty and Staff.
Nyerere Centre for Peace Research
The Nyerere Centre for Peace Research is a joint effort of the East African Community (EAC) and Arcadia University that provides an academic resource to the community. The Nyerere Centre is a state of the art student research and training Centre that includes a computer lab and classroom equipped with video conferencing equipment. Located just steps away from the Arusha International Conference Centre, students are exposed to international and regional organization’s headquarters located in Arusha.
Why Arusha?
Arusha is the kind of place where you can get an idea of what modern Africa is all about. Known as the Geneva of Africa, its relevance internationally, as well as, on the African Continent is immense. It has hosted some of the most important peace treaties and international agreements in modern African history. More recently there have been several attempts to build peace in Darfur.
The Arusha International Conference Centre located in Arusha, is the host of United National International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UN ICTR), The East African Community Headquarters (EAC) and the African Unions Court for Human and Peoples’ Rights along with many International Development Organizations. Due to the diverse settings Arusha offers students the opportunities to meet with a variety of organizations, gain firsthand knowledge and experience the best of East Africa.
Located in the safari capital of Northern Tanzania located just a few hours from famed Tanzanian Northern Circuit safari that includes some of the most famous and remarkable sights in the world; such as the annual Wildebeest Migration, the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, and the base of Masai Mara mountain range. Arusha is the starting point for virtually all safaris into Ngorongoro and the Serengeti.
