Meeting the Needs of Today’s Educators
Arcadia University has been at the forefront of providing quality teacher education programs in more than 21 areas of certification to educators throughout the region. In addition, Arcadia has a long history of providing quality and well-respected Master of Education, Master of Arts in Education and Doctor of Education in Special Education programs.
Choices and flexibility: Certification, a master’s degree, or both—educators interested in career advancement and professional specialization have multiple options at Arcadia. Multiple tracking means certification coursework can be applied toward a master’s degree.
Ask our advisers how you can build on your education. Get a certificate in areas such as ESL and special education. Add to the credits you already have and earn a master’s degree.
Easy access: Graduate courses are offered year-round—fall, spring and summer—and in the evenings. They are taught at Arcadia’s Glenside campus, on-site at area schools, and online.
Expert faculty: Get to know some of the leading drivers in inclusive education, math and science education, classroom behavior management, and literacy.
Certifications: All instructional, intern, supervisory and administrative certification programs are approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The master’s degree programs in education allow students to prepare for Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification while pursuing a master’s degree in education. However, the master’s degree is not required for certification. Students already certified can add a second certification in a new field of specialization.
Advanced Study: The Certificate of Advanced Study program is designed for teachers who have completed a master’s degree and want to pursue further systematic study in education to develop special interests or to gain strength in specific areas. The emphasis of the program is on self-directed learning and research and may lead to additional certification.
A Driving Force in Inclusive Education
As Pennsylvania schools plan how to integrate children with disabilities into general classrooms, Dr. Graciela Slesaransky-Poe, Coordinator of Arcadia’s Graduate Special Education program, is an advocate for inclusive educational practices. Along with Dr. Ellen Skilton-Sylvester, she founded Arcadia’s Annual Inclusion Institute. With funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, AAII is a year-long professional development institute where teams of educators, administrators, and parents of students with disabilities learn how to make inclusion happen in their schools and school districts.
