Certification Initiative In Mathematics and Science (CIMS)

Program Goal:

To implement and evaluate an innovative program designed to enable experienced regular and special education teachers and career changers to become “highly qualified” teachers of secondary mathematics or science. CIMS is a full secondary certification program in mathematics, general science, biology or chemistry and special education for teachers supporting math or science.

 

Eligibility:

*We are no longer accepting applications for the CIMS Grant. Please check back to the Center for Adult and Professional Education's website for future grant opportunities.*

Certification in mathematics, general science, biology, or chemistry:

Experienced teachers who seek to become highly qualified in mathematics, general science, biology, or chemistry.

Career changers who plan to enter the classroom by fall 2010 and seek to become highly qualified in mathematics, general science, biology, or chemistry.

Certification in special education:

Teachers currently placed in a special education classroom supporting math or science.

Teachers currently certified in math of science who seek an additional certification in special education.

 

Participating teachers will receive:

  • Tuition for courses at the Community College to meet the PDE required content background in mathematics and science.
  • Tuition for content coursework through Arcadia University which may not be available at the Community College
  • Tuition for Arcadia graduate professional coursework required for certification.
  • Peer mentor at the participant’s school to provide support in the content area, as well as to assist in making the connection between content and the classroom.
  • Praxis preparation workshop
  • Reimbursement for Praxis II Test
