Master of Arts in Health Education (M.A.H.E)

The Master of Arts Degree in Health Education is designed for school health and physical education teachers and community health educators. It provides a breadth of knowledge in health and trains health educators to assess needs and to plan and implement programs within the school and community settings. In addition, students are trained to coordinate health education programs and act as resources and communication links for health education needs and concerns.

Program Objectives

After completion of the Master of Arts Degree in Health Education, the student will be able to:

  • Assess individual and community needs for health education
  • Plan and implement effective health education programs
  • Coordinate provision of health education services
  • Act as a resource person in health education
  • Communicate health and health education needs, concern, and resources.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the general admission procedures outlined in the Arcadia University Graduate Catalog, consider the following:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • An overall GPA of 2.8 with a GPA of 3.0 in the major course of study.
  • Three recommendations from professors or colleagues.
  • Response to an essay question.

Academic Policies and Procedures

A grade point average of "B" is required for admission to degre e candidacy, fieldwork and graduation. A grade below "C" may not be applied toward a degree and only 6 credits of "C" will count toward a degree. If a failing grade is received ("C-" or below) the course may be repeated one time only with the adviser's permission. No more than two courses may be repeated. A grade of "B" or above is required for HE 490: Fieldwork Seminar.

  • One additional course chosen with the advisor from Education, Psychology, Health Studies or other graduate offerings without prerequisites.

CHES Certification

Upon completion of this degree, the student will be eligible to sit for the National Certifying Exam for Health Education Specialists (CHES).
