Director

Warren Haffar

Warren R. Haffar, Ph.D., received a B.S. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Utah, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Peace Science from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, Dr. Haffar is Director of the International Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR). Prior to his appointment at Arcadia University, Dr. Haffar served as a program officer at the Project on Ethnic Relations, an NGO that conducts programs of high-level intervention and serves as a neutral mediator to prevent ethnic conflict in Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the former Soviet Union. His experience extends to mediation of environmental disputes as well as research and publication on the sources of environmental conflict, sustainable development strategies in post-conflict societies, and research methods in conflict analysis.

Assistant Director

Angela Kachuyevski

Angela Kachuyevski, Ph.D., received a B.A. in International Studies and in Russian Language and Literature from the Ohio State University, and an MA in Law and Diplomacy and a Ph.D. from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. Dr. Kachuyevski specializes in international negotiation and conflict resolution, as well as in public international law and international security studies. She has lived and worked in the former Soviet Union on grassroots democratization and peacebuilding projects, and has contributed to numerous conflict prevention and ethnic conflict management research projects. Her current research focuses on preventive diplomacy in conflicts that involve non-state actors.

Program Manager

Sherry Levin, M.A. IPCR, Program Manager received her B.A. in American Studies from Temple University where she also received certificates in Latin-American Studies and Multi-lingual Business. She owned a small business in the Old City section of Philadelphia for over 7 years before pursing her Masters degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution. Combining her background in small business and interest in community development, she is the small business finance/operations instructor for the Philadelphia Entrepreneur Project (PEP) with the Empowerment Group - a not for profit organization in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.

Alex Otieno

Alex Otieno, M.P.H., Instructor of Sociology, received his B.A. in History and Anthropology from University of Nairobi and his M.P.H. from Temple University, where he is currently pursuing doctoral studies in the Health Studies Department. He has been involved in efforts aimed at developing a research and advocacy agenda for human rights in the context of HIV/AIDS in Africa, as well as in education and advocacy for fostering peace activism in both the US and his native Kenya. Otieno is a member of the American Public Health Association, American Society for Law, Medicine and Ethics, African Studies Association, and the Health Global Access Project. In addition, he is co-founder of the Program for Enhancement of East Africa Communication and Education (PEACE). And has worked on HIV/AIDS and homelessness issues in Kenya and in the US and is currently the community liaison for the Outreach Coordination Center of Project HOME in Philadelphia.

Barbara Simmons, Adjunct Professor of International Peace and Conflict Resolution, is the founder and executive producer of Peace Talks: Exploring the Alternatives to Violence, a public radio project that has aired on both National Public Radio and Public Radio International. She has served as executive director of the Peace Center in Bucks County for several years, and her work includes creation of Project PEACE, a program to build safe classrooms throughout Bucks County, Philadelphia, and New Jersey schools. Ms. Simmons has also served on the Boards of both the Newtown Friends School Committee and the Nakashima Foundation for Peace. Among her many awards, Simmons received the Fellowship Award from The Philadelphia Fellowship Commission and the National Peace Foundation’s Peacemaker/Peacebuilder Award as well.
