Dr. Jeffrey Shultz
Professor of Education
Dr. Shultz is an educational anthropologist who received an SB in mathematics from MIT, as well as a masters and doctorate in education from Harvard University. In 1983-84, he served as president of the Council on Anthropology and Education. He is the co-author of The Counselor as Gatekeeper: Social Interaction in Interviews (1982, Academic Press, with Frederick Erickson) and co-edited Journeys Through Ethnography: Realistic Accounts of Fieldwork (1996, Westview Press, with Annette Lareau). He did research in middle school classrooms in Philadelphia and Greenwich, England focusing on student voices and in 2001 co-edited In Our Own Words: Students’ Perspectives on School (Roman & Littlefield, with Alison Cook-Sather). Finally, he and his wife, Norah (Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Education) co-edited Challenges of Mulliculural Education: Teaching and Taking Diversity Courses (2005, Paradigm Publishers).
