Middle School Education (4-8)

Students entering this program will receive a B.A. in Education with a concentration and certification in Middle School Education. Students who major in this area will also select a content area specialization in one or more of the following areas.

  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • English/Language Arts
  • Social Studies

Students will follow a course of study that includes professional education coursework, that prepares them to teach children at the Middle School level (4-8). In addition, students will be required to take content area courses in their selected focused content area (i.e., mathematics).

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to teach grades 4-8 as well as be able to teach content specialized coursework in the Middle School in their focused area.

Requirements

Credit Count (128 credits):

  1. Professional Education Requirements (47 credits; Core in Middle School Education). Some major courses fulfill other Curriculum requirements
  2. Content specialization requirements (28-36 credits depending on content area selected)
  3. Additional Undergraduate Curriculum requirements 45-53 credits depending on content area focus)

Students can obtain special education certification by completing a 5 year program. Students in this program can receive a B.A. in Education and a M.Ed. in one of the following areas:

  • Reading
  • Reading plus ESL
  • TESOL
  • Instructional Technology
  • Library Science
  • Environmental Education
  • Special Education (PreK-8 or 7-12).
