Colin McCarthy '12, Transfer Student

My favorite place is in front of a classroom. As part of the student-teaching requirement, I taught a fourth-grade class at Cheltenham Elementary School for 14 weeks. It was by far the best time I’ve ever had.
At an early age I knew I wanted to be a teacher and Arcadia’s Master of Education program is the fastest way to get me where I want to be. At the end of five years, I’ll have a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Education, and I’ll be certified in elementary and special education.
It wouldn’t have been such a positive experience if it were for my Literacy Education course with Dr. Leif Gustavson, Associate Professor Education. He taught me to be more outgoing and open.
As a transfer student, becoming a part of the basketball team helped me get accustomed to campus faster. It’s where I met most of my best friends. Playing a Division III sport is awesome. I consider myself a pretty competitive person, and the competition in Division III is great. The crowds that turn up at the Kuch Center make playing night in and night out an awesome experience.
