2009 Fall Season comes to a close at MAC's
Wilkes-Barre, PA: 10/25/09 - After receiving a first round bye at #5 singles, senior Irina Samson would go on to knock off Lycoming's Katie Walker, 6-2, 6-2. She then advanced to face King's Lauren Breen in what would turn out as the final match of her collegiate career, battling Breen through a tough first set before settling for a 7-6, 6-1 loss. In the quaterfinals for #3, Kate Wiseman challenged Wilkes' Xiaoqiao Zhang and was defeated by Zhang 6-2, 6-3 while Megan Gillespie lost in the #2 quaterfinals to Elizabethtown's Jess Russell 6-2, 6-3.

Knights' #2 doubles pair and three singles players advance at MAC's
Wilkes-Barre, PA: 10/24/09 - Arcadia Women's Tennis sent their #2 doubles pair into the semi finals while three individual players advanced out of Saturday's first round action at the 2009 MAC Women's Tennis Individual Championships in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Sophomores Megan Gillespie and Beth Osipowitz proved to be Arcadia's most successful doubles pairing on the weekend, as the duo played #2, defeating Albright's Amanda Cain and Shaunte Allen 8-1and Alvernia's Alvernia's Lauren Ertel and Lillian Snyder 8-6 before bowing to Elizabethtown's Allison Burkhardt and Madison Pipkin 8-1 in semi final round action. The #3 pairing of first year Melissa DeBello and senior Irina Samson handled Amelia Llyod/Marissa Williams of DeSales 8-0 in Friday's first round action before Elizabethtown's Kristi Noecker/Alena Marani dealt the pair an 8-3 setback.
Three individual players advanced out of Saturday's first round, including Gillespie who pulled of an impressive 9-8 win over FDU's Lauren Abate, sophomore Kate Wiseman, an 8-5 winner over Eastern's Allision Verdic while Samson, the #4 seed, recevied a first round bye.

2009 Middle Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Individual Championships
Arcadia University in conjunction with the Middle Atlantic Conference office, Wilkes University, King's University and Misericordia University, host this weekend's MAC Women's Tennis Individual Championships in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Due to the forecasted weather for Friday and Saturday, play will begin with rounds one and two of doubles at 6 PM on Friday at the Kingston Indoor Tennis Club. Rounds one and two of singles play will follow on Saturday at 1:30 PM at Kingston with the semi finals and finals for both doubles and singles set for Sunday at the Ralston Complex at Wilkes University (Kirby Park) beginning at 9 AM. Knights drop final match of season to Messiah
Glenside, PA: 10/19/09 - The Knights entered today's match needed a win to qualify for the Commonwealth conference team championship held in the spring, however, they came up a little short, falling to Messiah 8-1 this afternoon. Arcadia's victory came off the racket of Senior Irina Samsom playing her final regular season match, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in #5 singles action.
Arcadia hung tough through doubles play, barely missing out on two wins, falling 8-6 in #2 doubles and 9-7 in #3 doubles. Messiah would take the momentum from the tightly constested doubles and roll through singles action, not dropping a set in five of the six matches.
The Knights will now prepare for the MAC individual tournament taking place in Wilkes-Barre this upcoming weekend.

Weather delays match with Messiah
Glenside, PA: 10/16/09 - Saturday's home Commonwealth regular season finale against Messiah College has been postponed due to inclement weather conditions forecasted for the weekend. The two teams will now square off on Monday, Oct. 19 at 3 PM on the Weiss Tennis Courts in Glenside.
Women's Tennis dominates PS-Harrisburg; Win 7-2
The Knights were in top form on a cool, fall day, dropping just two matches this afternoon in non-conference action. Arcadia took two of three from the Lions in doubles actions and a near sweep in singles play, for a 7-2 victory.
Arcadia took #2 and #3 doubles, 9-7 and 8-2 victories by Megan Gillespie/Beth Osipowitz and Irina Samsom/Melissa DeBello respectively. In singles action Cory Mazen looked ready for an intense comeback in #1 play stealing the second set, 6-3, and forcing a deciding tie-breaker. Mazen took the early lead in the tie breaker, however Lauren Hall of PS-Harrisburg was up to the task, rallying to take the tie-breaker 10-8 and match 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. Kate Wiseman, Osipowitz, Samsom, DeBello, and Leanne Leporte each took their singles matches in two sets.
The Knights will conclude their regular season play this Saturday in Glenside against Commonwealth conference opponent Messiah College at 1 PM.

LVC tops women's tennis, 5-1
Cheltenhem, PA: 10/10/09 - In a match shortened due to time availability, Lebanon Valley College made the most of its time on the indoor courts of Cheltenhem Raquet Club, beating the Knights 5-1 in today's Commonwealth Conference game. Arcadia earned a win in #3 doubles as the duo of Irina Samsom and Melissa DeBello won 8-5. The Knights now fall to 2-3 overall in conference play with one match remaining against Messiah College.

The Knights will travel to take on non-conference opponent Penn-State Harrisburg Monday October 12th at 3:30, before returning home next Saturday to play Messiah.
Knights even conference record; win 6-3 over Albright
Glenside, PA: 10/9/09 - Arcadia entered today's Commonwealth conference match needing a victory over the Lions of Albright College to even their conference record to 2-3 and stay in the team play-off hunt. The Knights did just that, winning at #2 doubles and completing a near sweep in singles play this afternoon.
Arcadia was in control of just about every match in singles play, with two matches equaling shut-outs. Cory Mazen handled #1 singles in short fashion, failing to drop a game in the opening set and only dropping two games in the second set, taking the set and match, 6-0, 6-2. At #2 and #6 singles play Kate Wiseman, and Melissa DeBello delivered complete shut-outs, both winning 6-0, 6-0.
The Knights will return to the court tomorrow to take on yet another Commonwealth opponent in Lebanon Valley College. The match will begin at noon.
Gwynedd-Mercy top women's tennis
In a match continued from September 28th due to unplayable weather conditions Gwynedd-Mercy proved to be too tough for the Knights, winning in dominating fashion 8-1. Arcadia was able to pull out a tough victory in #3 singles play as Sophomore Kate Wiseman defeated Jessica Scarpello.
Wiseman after winning a tough first set, 7-5, dropped the second set 4-6, forcing a third set tie-breaker. Able to quickly regain her composure, Wiseman made quick work of her opponent in the tiebreaker winning 10 of 14 points, and the match.
The Knights re-enter conference play as they take on conference opponent Albright College Wednesday October 7th. University relations and athletics will team up for the match, providing free hot dogs, veggie dogs, chips and soda to all those who come out and show their support for the Knights. The match begins at 4 PM at Weiss tennis courts on the campus of Arcadia University.

Knights regain winning form, top Lycoming 7-2 for first Commonwealth win
Williamsport, PA: 10/3/09 - Arcadia University Women's Tennis dropped just two matches at host Lycoming College with wins in two of three doubles matches and a near sweep of singles play leading to the team's first Commonwealth win of the season, a 7-2 defeat of the Warriors on Saturday afternoon. Today's win snaps a four-game losing skid for Arcadia (7-4, 1-2 CC).
Arcadia took top and bottom doubles handily with respective 8-2 and 8-1 wins by Cory Mazen/Kate Wiseman and Irina Samson/Melissa DeBello. Mazen was primed for a win at #1 singles after taking the opening set 6-3, but Lycoming's Amiee Snyder forced a third set tie breaker with a 6-4 win in set two before winning match in the tiebreaker, 10-4. Megan Gillespie, Wiseman, Beth Osipowitz, Samson and DeBello each needed only two sets for wins at #2 through #6 singles.
The Knights will continue their suspended play match with Gwynedd-Mercy College at home on Monday at 3:30 pm.

Misericordia bests women's tennis, 6-3
Arcadia recorded wins at #3 doubles and #3 and #6 singles, however that wasn't enough as Misericordia won the match 6-3. Sophomore Kate Wiseman and First-year Leanna Laporte got wins at singles and the pair Laporte and Melissa DeBello won in doubles for the only points for the Knights this afternoon.
The Knights won't dwell on this defeat long as they look to avenge this past week starting Monday with another home contest, this time against Gwynedd-Mercy College. The match is set to begin at 4 PM.
Alvernia Escapes with 5-4 win in Women's Tennis
The Knights were able to record wins at #2 and #3 doubles and #5 and #6 singles but couldn't solve Alvernia University as the Crusaders escaped with a narrow 5-4 victory to remain undefeated in the Commonwealth. Arcadia (6-3, 0-2 CC) got singles wins from junior Irina Samson and first year Melissa DeBello while the pairings of Beth Osipowitz/Megan Gillespie and DeBello/Samson won the Knights' two doubles matches.
Arcadia will look to get back into the hunt for a Commonwealth playoff position when they take on Lycoming next Saturday October 3rd. Before that match-up the Knights invite Misericordia and Gwynedd-Mercy to campus. Misericordia travels to Glendside Saturday September 26th for a 1 PM start and GMC, Monday September 28th for a non-conference match-up at 4 PM.

W. Tennis drops first non-conference match of season
The Arcadia women's tennis team lost a tough match this evening at Neumann College, 6-3. Prior to the match the Knights were boasting a five match win streak against non-Commonwealth opponents.
First-year Melissa DeBello earned a tough win in #3 singles play, losing the first set 6-3, while fighting back to win the final two sets 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Beth Osipowitz also earned a victory at #4 singles, winning in routine fashion, 6-4, 6-2. In doubles action Junior Irina Samson paired up with DeBello to earn the lone win, taking the match 8-3.
Arcadia will return homeThursday September 24th to take on Commonwealth opponent Alvernia University at 4 PM.

Knights drop first match of the year at Elizabethtown
Elizabethtown, PA: Arcadia Women's Tennis lost their first match of the 2009 season, also the team's first Commonwealth Conference match of the year, an 8-1 loss to the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon. Junior Irina Samson earned the Knights sole win of the afternoon in a barnburner three game set at #5 singles. Samson, competing against Elizabethtown's Alena Morani, fell 2-6 in the opening game of the set 2-6. Samson fought back to defeat Morani 6-3 in game two to force a third set tie-breaker where she battled to a 10-7 win.
The Knights (6-1) travel to Neumann College Tuesday for a 3:45 PM non-conference match.

Knights defeat Penn-State Abington
The Knights made quick work of the Lions this afternoon, defeating them 9-0, while not dropping a set. The win improves Arcadia's record to 5-0. In impressive fashion, it was hard for Penn State Abington to even take a game, six of the nine matches the Knights lost one or fewer games.

Knights remained undefeated; win 6-3 over Cedar Crest
The Arcadia women's tennis team continued its early season dominance, beating the Falcons of Cedar Crest College 6-3 to improve record to 4-0. The Knights for the second outting in a row used their depth to pull out the victory, as the team #3, 4, 5, and 6 players remained undefeated in singles play on the season.
The Falcons Maria Mallery and Sarah Wicks sweep their matches on the afternoon, winning in both singles and doubles actions, however not without a fight from the Knights Cory Mazen and Megan Gillespie. Mazen and Gillespie both pushed their matches to the brink, however, were unable to pull out the matches losing in three sets to Mallery and Wicks. Sophomore Kate Wiseman also had her first three set match of the season, pulling out a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Laura Shivley of Cedar Crest.

Women's Tennis defeats Rosemont 6-3
Glenside, PA: 9/5/09 - In home action this afternoon the Knights of Arcadia defeated the Rosemont Ravens to improve to 3-0 on the season. Facing their toughest competition of the season, Arcadia was able to play steady tennis and pull out the team victory.
The Ravens number one and number two players had the Knights number today, sweeping both singles matches and their double match, however, the Knights dominated play on all other courts to secure the win. Kate Wiseman, Beth Osipowitz, Irina Samson, and Leanne Laporte all remained undefeated in singles play.

Knights earn second straight shutout victory; improve to 2-0
Glenside, PA: 9/3/09 - The Arcadia tennis team continued their impressive play Thursday afternoon, earning a 9-0 victory over visiting Immaculata University in the teams home opener. Even more impressive the Knights failed to drop a single set on the afternoon.
Senior Irina Sampson continued to dominate the court shutting out her opponent on the scoreboard for her second straigh 6-0, 6-0 victory. Singles number one player Cory Mazen, fought a tough opponent in a second set tie breaker, edging her 7-5 to complete the straight set victory.

Women's Tennis Blanks Philadelphia Bible 9-0
Langhorne, PA: 9/1/09 - Arcadia women's tennis team traveled to Philadelphia Biblical University this afternoon and came back with a sweep of both singles and doubles action. Coming off an 08-09 play-off berth the Knights picked up from last year's momentum capturing the opening season win.
In doubles action the Knights only lost one game in three matches with PBU as the both the number one and number three teams of Cory Mazen/Kate Wiseman, and Irina Samson/Jen Cardinale, made quick work of their opponents, not dropping a single game. Arcadia finished 3-0 in doubles play on the afternoon.
In singles play, Arcadia continued its on court domination, going 6-0, while only dropping two sets to their opponent. In impressive action, Megan Gillespie, Wiseman, Samsom, and Melissa DeBello were able to make short work of their opponent on the other side of the net, winning in straight sets, while only losing one game between four players.
The Arcadia women's tennis team returns to action Thursday September 3rd in their home opener against Immaculata Univeristy, set to begin at 4 pm right here on the campus of Arcadia University.
