Men's Hoops drop season opener at Rowan
Glassboro, NJ:  11/17/09 -  First year Renard Smith (New Orleans, LA/McDonogh 35) dropped 12 points in his collegiate debut and sophomore Jason Thompson (Cape May Courthouse, NJ/Middle Twp.) added 11 points and 6 rebounds off the bench but the Knights couldn't stop Steve Secula's game high 21 points as Rowan University handed the Knights a 73-58 loss in last night's non-conference season opener.

Rowan (1-0) started the contest on a 19-5 run over the first 7:46, taking their largest lead of the opening half at 2:45 to extend their lead to 19 (36-17). The Knights (0-1), shooting just 30% in the first half, fell behind 37-22 at the break and struggled from the free throw line, where they shot just 52% for the game.  Smith nailed a three point bucket with 4:50 remaining in the game to cut the Prof's lead to 11 (61-50) but Rowan would go onto outscore Arcadia 12-4 in the remaining minutes to secure the victory.

Seniors Glen Gagnon (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield) and Damien Palantino (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge), juniors Darrell Mills (Philadelphia, PA/Engineering & Sciences) and Alexis Alfonso (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) and Smith were the Knights' starting five in the season opener, combining for 25 points while Arcadia received 33 points off their bench, including 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks from first year Marvin Holman-Little (Philadelphia, PA/Penncrest).  Palantino, who returns as the Knight's leading scorer from a season ago, finished with 8 points in 17 minutes of action before leaving the game due to an injury.

Arcadia travels north to Chicopee, MA to take on Elms College and Mitchell College at the Elms College Blazer Tip-Off Tournament this Saturday and Sunday.
