Men's Lacrosse Club
The Arcadia University Men’s Lacrosse club was formed in the spring of 2007 by a group of students interested in bringing the sport to Arcadia’s campus. Practices began the following fall with the first game being played in mid November at Albright College. Despite losing the game the team garnered praise from the Albright players and coaches, especially goalie Jason Winkler on his talent at the position despite never playing the sport before. A game at Delaware Valley College followed on December 1st, and while losing again the Knights showed vast improvement.
During the spring season the team once again traveled to Reading to play in a double-header with Albright and Montgomery County Community College (MD). Though losing both games, Arcadia once again held their own and stayed competitive with Albright and the talented Montgomery County team, a perennial high ranking club from a lacrosse hotbed. Two tough losses at the hands of York and Bloomsburg closed out the season.
Arcadia played only one game in the fall of ‘08; A heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Philadelphia University in double overtime at Enon field in Mount Airy. Since its beginning the team has expanded to 19 players and has fought through practices in freezing temperatures, low numbers, and inexperience to become the club that it is today. The 2009 Arcadia Men’s Lacrosse team will compete in the Liberty League that includes Cabrini, Rider, St. Joe’s, Delaware Valley, and other successful programs. Anyone interested in playing on the team should contact one of the officers listed below. No experience is necessary.
