Five Knights Recognized with All Freedom Conference
Anneville, NY - 11/8/07:   Arcadia University women's soccer placed five student-athletes on the Freedom All Conference team as announced by the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation this morning.  First years Janelle Jablonski (Orchard Park/Orchard Park, NY), Katie O'Malley (Coatesville Area/Parkesburg, PA), junior Sam Calhoun (Haddon Heights/Barrington, NJ) and senior Kaitlyn Adams (Hillsborough/Hillsborough, NJ) were all selected to the First Team All Freedom Conference while senior Stephanie Bates (Little Flower/Philadelphia, PA) was tabbed Second Team All Freedom Conference.

Among them, the selections combined for 80 points, including 8 game winning goals, to help the Knights to an impressive 14-3-3 overall record in the 2007 season and reach the Freedom Championship title game where they lost the 4-3 overtime battle to Manhattanville College.

Leading the way for the Knights this season was junior Sam Calhoun, whose 20 points led the squad.  Calhoun recieved Freedom Player of the Week honors back on October 1 and tallied a team leading 11 goals for the Knights.  As a first year, Janelle Jablonski erupted for 22 points (9 goals, 4 assists) and 3 game winners, including the overtime winner against Wilkes to help the Knights clinch the #2 seed for Freedom playoffs and the game tying goal against the Valiants in the title game.

Katie O'Malley, AU's other first year recognized, posted a dozen points (5 goals, 2 assists) including back-to-back tallies in the title game.  Senior Kaitlyn Adams anchored a strong defense for the Knights in 2007 and saved her most impressive performance for the Freedom title game where she punted nearly every Valiant attempt away in the Knight's second half comeback effort. She finished the season with one assist.

Senior Stephanie Bates contributed 16 points, third highest on the team, in 2007.  Her two game winners and sheer hustle to beat opponents to the ball helped her to a Freedom Player of the Week nod back on September 17.

Manhattanville Takes Freedom Title
Purchase, NY - 11/03/07:  [Results]  Arcadia Women's Soccer put forth a championship performance on a cold and blustery afternoon in Purchase, NY, but a bad break for the Knights in the 94th minute gave host Manhattanville College a 4-3 overtime win and the program's first Freedom Conference Championship title.  This was the third straight overtime affair for Arcadia, who drops to 14-4-3 overall with the loss.

With possession of the ball three minutes into extra minutes, on a routine play, Arcadia intelligently played the ball back, rather than through a very congested midfield. But a bad hop carried the ball deep into the box where senior keeper Michelle Leone raced out to stop oncoming Valiant junior Lisa Rill from getting off the shot.  The two collided and the ball popped loose to Manhattanville first year Carey Hickey as Leone and her defenders raced back to block the front of the net.  That's when Hickey placed the loose ball under the crossbar in the 94th minute to end a resiliant comeback effort from the Knights of Arcadia to give the Valiants the title on their home turf and a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament which begins on Wednesday.

The Valiants found the score board in the 7th minute on an own goal off a Kathryn Moore corner service.  With strong winds whipping across the field, Moore sent one into the box with the wind at her back and the ball went off the chest of a Knight defender and into the net.  Manhattanville's added their second in the 22nd minute only this time off a set play.  Moore once again played the corner towards the far post and junior Dawn Belonick appeared in the box to deflected it into the net for a 2-0 Valiant advantage.  The Knights, out-shooting the host school 10-4 in the first half failed to convert on three good scoring opportunities, including a header off the cross bar from Stephanie Bates, in the opening stanza to settle for a 2-0 halftime deficit.

With the scoreboard reflective of thier first meeting of the season, a 2-0 loss on the same field, the Knights came out destined to find some of their league leading offense, and it came quickly.  Down 2-0 in the 67th minute, first year Katie O'Malley absolutely crushed a low shot on a free kick from just outside the box that blasted the twine, cutting the Valiants lead to 2-1.  But not even a minute later, Manhattanville's Holly Nonis delivered on a scramble in front of the Arcadia goal to give her team the 2 goal advantage.

Now down 3-1, the Knights played aggressive on both ends and were rewarded favorably for their efforts.  Less than three minutes removed from Nonis' marker, O'Malley answered with her second of the day, a rocket from the top of the box, to put her Knights within a goal, 3-2.  Arcadia completed the lightning-fast comeback exactly five minutes after their first goal, when speedy first year Janelle Jablonski broke loose toward the box and sent the ball spinning in on and past Valiant keeper Ali Bromson to cap off a 3 goal comeback in five minutes and more importantly, tie the game at 3-3.

Arcadia continued to dominate play for the remainder of regulation as the backfield trio of Danielle Discher, Kaitlyn Adams and Erin Metz cleared out nearly every Valiant attempt at a scoring chance, with the Knights posting a few near misses on what would have been the go-ahead tally.

In the opening minutes of overtime play, Arcadia had a textbook scoring chance called back on an offside call, and wouldn't get another chance before Hickey's shot ended the contest.

Arcadia outshot the home team 19-8, forcing Bromson to make 8 stops while Leone tallied two saves in the championship match.  While O'Malley's two goals and Jablonski's game tying marker provided all of the Knight's offense, Arcadia was also aided by a phenomenal performace from the backfield trio and Kat Kraemer, Patty Robb, Stephanie Bates, Jamie Bradford and Sam Calhoun.

At 14-3-3 overall, Arcadia will wait for a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament, scheduled to be announced Monday at 9:00 a.m.  First round NCAA Tournament matches will be held Wednesday, Friday or Saturday.

Knights Triumphant in Shootout; First Year Members Arcadia and Manhattanville to Vie for Title
Glenside, PA - 10/30/07:  [Results]  Arcadia University Women's Soccer found themselves in a barnburner with the Colonels of Wilkes University this afternoon in Freedom Conference semifinal round action, pulling off the dramatic 3-2 advantage in penalty kicks to advance to the school's first Freedom Conference championship game this Saturday, November 3, at Manhattanville College.  Both Arcadia and Manhattanville joined the Freedom Conference in August, 2007.

Arcadia and Wilkes were quite familiar with each other having met this past Sunday with Arcadia stealing the game in overtime at Wilkes, 2-1. But on this afternoon, the game remained scoreless after two overtime periods and more and more passer-bys found themselves now fans drawn into the best of five shootout.

Appropriately so, it came down to Arcadia's final chance with PK's knotted at 2 apeice and perhaps even more appropriate, one of the team's seven seniors stepped up for the shot.  Senior Kat Kraemer, a member of the 2005 PAC Championship team, crushed the ball past Wilkes keeper Liz Pauly and a frenzied pileup of players and fans ensued on the field as this senior class will vie for their second conference championship and the school's first Freedom Conference championship rights on Saturday.

Wilkes did an excellent job of controlling possession for much of the first half despite Arcadia's edge in scoring attempts 9-5. First year Janelle Jablonski, who ended Sunday's double overtime game before a shootout was necessary, found herself with two early scoring chances in the first half, one which sailed wide, and her second which rang off the short post.  From that point on, Jablonski was covered by two defenders when Arcadia threatened on the attack.

For the remainder of the half, the Colonels blocked the midfield and used double teams to prevent Arcadia from setting up much offense and the two teams went into the half at a 0-0 stalemate.

The second half was anyone's game and each team had their chances to get on the board, the first by Wilkes Ashley Deemie, whose rising shot was punched away by the leaping Arcadia keeper Michelle Leone at 32:40.  The Knights answered with the games next best scoring attempt at 15:02 as senior Stephanie Bates beat her defender for a one-on-one shot against Pauly but her shot sailed high over the crossbar to silence the home crowd.  One more decent chance by Wilkes occured with less than four minutes to play as Julissa Reed's one timer was stopped by Leone, but the rebound was corralled by Katilyn Swales but surprisingly sent wide.

The two overtime stanzas came and went with the Knights notching the only shots of the extra periods leaving the shootout to determine who would advance to play for the title.

Wilkes' Bethany Head found the low corner to give the Colonels a 1-0 edge which they held as Arcadia's Danielle Dishcer missed her chance to even the score.  Wilkes' Kelly Knox sent her try wide and the Knights answered on Katie O'Malley's rocket to knot the score at 1-1.

Wilkes missed their next two while Arcadia's Kaitlyn Adams put the Knights ahead, 2-1, before Brittany Ely netted Wilkes final attempt giving the home team one final shot to advance before the game would move into sudden death PKs.

As senior Kat Kraemer stepped up for the shot, Pauly stayed big but couldn't get high enough to block the ball down as the ball sailed into the net along with a dagger into the Colonel's season.

Arcadia will travel to and face #1 Manhattanville, who defeated #4 Delaware Valley, 2-0 in today's other semifinal round game.  The Valiants handed the Knights their only conference loss this season, in Manhattanville by a 2-0 score.   This will be Manhattanville's first Freedom Confernence championship try.

Leone finished with 7 stops for her eigth shutout of the season while Pauly made 13 saves for Wilkes.  The Knights held a 19-11 advantage in shots while Wilkes managed 4 corner attempts to the Knight's 3.  Wilkes concludes a successful 2007 campaign with an overall record of 9-9-1, while 14-2-3 Arcadia will try to add to their win column against the Valiants.

Knights Clinch #2 Seed, Home Field  in 2-1 OT Thriller at Wilkes
Wilkes-Barre, PA - 10/28/07:  [Results] Courtesy of Wilkes Sports Information - First year Janelle Jablonski scored an unassisted goal at the 101:55 mark of the second overtime period to lift Arcadia University to a 2-1 win over Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference women’s soccer match on Sunday afternoon at Ralston Field.
/> Jablonski's game winner spun toward the back post as the wind and help from Wilkes keeper Liz Pauly glove flicked the ball onwards into the net to give Arcadia their first overtime win of the season.

The loss dropped Wilkes to the number-three seed for the conference playoffs that will begin on Tuesday. The Lady Colonels, 9-9 overall and 4-2 in the conference, will travel to second-seeded Arcadia in one semi-final match. The Knights will head into the tilt with an overall record of 14-3-2, and finished with a 4-1-1 record in conference play. Arcadia entered today's match having shutout their opponents over the last 270:00 minutes.  Game time for Tuesday's match will be announced on Monday.
&#br /> Junior Jamie Bradford gave Arcadia a 1-0 lead at 26:32 of the opening period when she scored off an assist from junior Samantha Calhoun.
    &
The match would stay that way until the final minute when Wilkes finally broke through for the tying goal to make it 1-1 and force overtime. That tally came with just 20 seconds left off the foot of Melissa Polchinski.

Wilkes out-shot Arcadia by a slim 13-12 margin and also gained a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Michelle Leone had seven saves in net for the Knights, while Lady Colonels goalkeeper Liz Pauly finished with three stops.

Knights Slip Three Past FDU-Florham in Freedom Showdown
Glenside, PA - 10/24/07:  [Results]  The rain rarely ceased but the Knights went on to strike three times against a tough FDU-Florham squad in this afternoon's Freedom Conference game.  Senior Stephanie Bates struck first followed by juniors Jamie Bradford and Sammie Calhoun to help senior keeper Michelle Leone preserve the 3-0 shutout in the Knights third straight win.

Arcadia (13-2-2/3-1-1) positioned themselves nicely in the conference standings with today's win as Wilkes fell to 4-1 with a 1-0 loss to Mahattanville, who takes over the top spot.  Mahattanville (5-0), Wilkes (4-1), Arcadia (3-1-1) and DeSales (2-4) own the top four slots with one more conference game for each on Saturday.

The slick conditions started early and continued on through game's end and despite continuous second half pressure from FDU, the Knights seemed to find a way to get in the way of the Red Devils after connecting for their three scores in the first half.

Near the thirty minute mark Erin Metz slid a lateral pass to Stephanie Bates who took the ball around FDU keeper Amanda Buyes and put it far side for the 1-0 lead.  Bates would ensure Arcadia's next score with her pass to Jamie Bradford who chipped a quick shot over Buyes  giving the Knights the 2-0 lead.  Arcadia never let up and connected once again with under five minutes in the half on a quick play between Janelle Jablonski and Sammie Calhoun.  Jablonski's through ball found Calhoun running to goal, with Buyes going left, Calhoun poked it right for the Knights 3-0 lead.

The second half saw chances for each quad and a slippery ball caused three missed opportunities for Arcadia but with everyone responding, the Knights preserved a big conference win.  Their third shutout in three games give keeper Leone shutout number 7 as she stopped seven Red Devil scoring chances.

Arcadia travels to Wilkes University on Saturday.  A win at Wilkes would give the Knights a 2nd place finish, the higher seed and their home field for the semi-finals on October 31.

Glenside, PA - 10/20/07:  [Results]  The Arcadia women's soccer team found the goal five times against Freedom opponent King's College as the Knights scored three in the first half and two in the second in today's 5-0 win.  Arcadia improves to 12-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Freedom conference while the Lady Monarchs drop to 3-12-1 overall and 1-3 in league play.

The Knights jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the 7th minute as senior Patty Robb played a through ball to first year Katie O'Malley whose shot sailed past Lady Monarch keeper Rachael Donatiello high and left into the net.  At 24:39 first year Janelle Jablonski settled a pass from senior Kaitlyn Adams and beat one defender along the left goal line and sent in a rocket to the far right side that made it's way just inside the goal post for the 2-0 Arcadia lead.  Jablonksi picked up her third point of the day on Arcadia's next tally when she played her pass to junior Sam Calhoun around the 12 with Calhoun tucking the ball into the short corner past Donatiello for a 3-0 Knights lead at 39:50.

The Knights came out of the half with a three goal to none lead only to add two more scores to seal their 5-0 win.  Calhoun poked the ball to senior Stephanie Bates in 75th minute for her 6th goal of the year and a 4-0 Knights lead.  Junior Casandra McLaughlin danced around two King's defenders and put the ball into the twine for her 6th tally on the season and the Knights 5th and final score of the game.

Knights Settle for 2-2 Draw in Home Opener
Glenside, PA - 9/12/07:  [Results] Women's Soccer began their home opener with a 2-0 lead with under 18 minutes to play in the game and allowed Rutgers-Camden University back into the contest as both teams played through double-overtime, settling for the 2-2 draw.  The tie puts the Knights at 2-2-1 on the year while Rutgers-Camden settles for 2-1-2.

The 2007 Knight lineup features an exciting group of first year players flanked by a core group of upperclasswomen and they combined to give Arcadia a 2 goal lead over a Rutgers-Camden squad they defeated 1-0 in 2006.

First year Katie O'Malley's (Coatesville/Coatesville, PA) aced a direct kick that spun off the goalkeeper's hands and in for the 1-0 Arcadia advantage in the 22nd minute of play. RC was held to 1 shot to Arcadia's 8 in the first half as the Knights held the one goal lead at the half.

The Knights came out sharp shooting and all but a goal post kept the score from being 2-0 Knights in the opening minutes of the second half.  Arcadia would find another post in the 65th minute, this time after a junior forward Sam Calhoun (Haddon Heights/Haddon Heights, NJ) danced around her defender at the top of the circle and send the ball off the post and in for the definite 2-0 lead.

Six minutes later RC's Vanessa Maia put her team on the board as her shot just beat senior keeper Michelle Leone's (Kingsway/Sweedsboro, NJ) fist into the side of the net.  Then at 81:57 RC's Jessica Leoni squared off against Leone and discovered an nearly empty goal crease and made it 2-2 to keep things interesting.

Arcadia out-shot Rutgers-Camden 4-0 in both overtime sessions with each shot clearly marked for the goal but Kristen Cargen saved each one to preserve a 2-2 tie for RC.

Leone made 3 saves of RC's 5 shots on goal while Cargen managed 5 with and one team save.

Arcadia will travel to familiar Pennsylvania Athletic Conference rival Cedar Crest on Saturday, Sept. 15 for a non-conference match and hope to have senior defender Kaitlyn Adams (Hillsborough/Hillsborough, NJ) back in the lineup after she left today's game following a collision.

Calhoun added one more tally at the 60:24 marker off a nice cross from the left corner from senior midfielder Patty Robb (St. Hubert's/Philadelphia, PA) to seal the 4-0 win.
