Act 48 Information
Beginning July 1, 2000, Act 48 of 1999 required persons holding Pennsylvania professional educator certification to complete continuing education requirements every five years in order to maintain their certificates as active.
Only successfully completed courses (earning a 'C' grade or better) taken at Arcadia University will be reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Education with proper documentation. All other courses must be reported through the appropriate institution.
To check your reporting status, go to the Pennsylvania Department of Education web site.
Beginning August 29, 2011, the Department of Education suspended Act 48 continuing education requirements for two years. However, no one is prohibited from taking Act 48 courses, programs and activities during the suspension/moratorium period. Additionally, educators may continue to acquire Act 48 credits and hours during this moratorium. Students may still submit Act 48 credit to the Department of Education and will be credited to the compliance period in effect at the time the moratorium began.
