Kathleen Wirth, Ed.D., is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Education. She currently coordinates the Master’s of Literacy and Reading Certification program the Arcadia Community Learning Center, a program to support reading skills ofstudents in neighboring school districts. Dr. Wirth has earned a doctorate degree in Education and a master’s degree in both Literacy Studies and Special Education from Arcadia University. She has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from West Chester University. Her areas of certification include Elementary Education, Special Education, Reading Specialist, and Supervision. Dr. Wirth’s research interests have focused on supporting the diverse needs in the area of literacy.

Dr. Wirth taught for the School District of Philadelphia for 30 years. During her tenure in the district, she served as an Elementary Education and Special Education teacher, a Reading Specialist, and Literacy Coach. She also led Professional Development programs for the district in the areas of Special Education and Literacy. Dr. Wirth attained the status of “Master Teacher” and was a “Mentor Teacher” for new teachers in the district. She received several awards during her years of teaching including the Brighter Futures Award (City of Philadelphia); Teacher of the Year (School District of Philadelphia); and Portrait of a Teacher Award (Campbell Industries). She also worked at the district level in developing curriculum for various Literacy programs.
