Dr. Tanya Santangelo

Associate Professor

Tanya Santangelo, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Special Education at Arcadia University. She joined the faculty in 2009. Prior to earning her doctorate in special education from the University of Maryland, she was a special education teacher, working with elementary and middle-school aged students in inclusive settings, and a district-level pupil personnel worker. Dr. Santangelo has worked collaboratively with Dr. Karen Harris and Dr. Steve Graham (at Vanderbilt University) for close to 15 years, researching the development and validation of effective procedures for teaching academic and self-regulatory strategies to students who experience learning and/or behavioral difficulties. The last few years, she has also been collaborating with Dr. Carol Tomlinson (at the University of Virginia) to examine and expand the use of differentiation as a way to promote equity and excellence for all students. She is the author of many scholarly publications and won the 2008 American Educational Research Association Special Education SIG student research award. Dr. Santangelo is currently an associate editor for the journal Reading & Writing Quarterly; she will assume the editorship in 2010.
