Arcadia Cares: Campus Conservation Efforts
Keeping a campus green is no easy task. But Tom Macchi, Associate Vice President of Facilities and Capital Planning, finds creative ways to improve the campus, protect the environment and save money.
It’s no accident that some facilities staff are traversing campus on golf carts instead of automobiles, for example, or that high-efficiency attic fans have been installed at the Castle to provide for induction cooling of the building. “These fans have reduced the Castle attic temperature by 20 degrees in the summer, and the cooling effects are noticeable throughout the building as there is a constant gentle air flow across the skin,” he notes.
