Arcadia University Forensic Science Student Receives Scholarship from Crime Laboratory Directors

GLENSIDE, Pa., Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009 ─ Lauren Kajiura, a student in Arcadia University's Master of Science in Forensic Science program, is the first Arcadia student to receive the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Scholarship.

Kajiura, a resident of Kaneohe, Hawaii, earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Willamette University in Salem, Ore. She is a member the Arcadia University chapter of Alpha Epsilon Lambda, the national honor society for the promotion of academic excellence for graduate students and students at professional schools.

The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) is a nonprofit professional society of crime laboratory directors and forensic science managers dedicated to providing excellence in forensic science through leadership and innovation. The purpose of the organization is to foster professional interests, to assist the development of laboratory management principles and techniques, to acquire, preserve and disseminate forensic-based information, to maintain and improve communications among crime laboratory directors, and to promote, encourage and maintain the highest standards of practice in the field.

Arcadia University's Master in Science in Forensic Science is one of only eleven master's-level Forensic Science programs in the nation accredited by the Forensic Science Education Program Accreditation Commission (FEPAC). Arcadia's program is offered in on site at the Fredric Rieders Family Renaissance Foundation (FRFRF) and NMS Labs state-of-the-art facilities and Renowned American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) and American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) certified faculty.

This alliance provides a source of adjunct certified and experienced instructors, a forensic library, and invaluable links to the forensic science community, as well as state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and facilities. For undergraduate students, Arcadia offers 3+2 (accelerated) and 4+2 Pre-Forensic Science programs, enabling students to complete their undergraduate coursework as well as pursue a Master's in Forensic Science.
