Arcadia University Names Ryan Weathers Head Coach of Swimming

GLENSIDE, Pa., Thursday, July 22, 2010—Arcadia University has named Ryan Weathers, of Jenkintown, Pa., as its new head coach for men’s and women’s swimming.

“We are thrilled to have Ryan join our athletics staff,” says Shirley Liddle, Director of Athletics at Arcadia. “His experiences as a national champion student-athlete and his coaching background will make our program more competitive among our conference opponents. His local connections will assist in our recruiting efforts, and his commitment to the sport of swimming will afford our student-athletes the ability to improve as athletes and to achieve life skills through the sport of swimming.”

Weathers is a health and physical education teacher, athletic director, and varsity swimming coach for the Abington School District. He has worked in Sea Isle, N.J., for the past 10 summers as a professional rescuer, CPR/ AED instructor, junior lifeguard instructor, open water competitor and EMT. Over his career, Weathers has been involved as an instructor or coach for five different swimming organizations. Before joining Abington, he served as the Head Recruiting and Assistant Swim Coach at West Chester University.
                                                                                                                  
As a student-athlete, Weathers was a member of the swim team at West Chester University (1999-03), earning a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and teacher certification with a minor in coaching, along with membership in the Phi Epsilon Kappa honors fraternity. As swim captain, Weathers led the relay team to West Chester’s first-ever Division II national championship. He was a two-time NCAA Division II National Champion and 25- time All American. Weathers also earned the West Chester Male Scholar Athlete of the Year twice in his college career and earned the ECAC Division II Male scholar Athlete of the Year award.
