Arcadia University Announces Study Abroad in Rome Program at Center for Italian Studies
The College of Global Studies partners with Università degli Studi Roma Tre in Rome, Italy
GLENSIDE, Pa., Monday, Aug. 2, 2010─The College of Global Studies of Arcadia University announces the establishment of the Arcadia University Center for Italian Studies in partnership with the Università degli Studi Roma Tre in Rome, Italy.
As part of this collaboration, the College is beginning an innovative semester study abroad program, Arcadia in Rome, which integrates U.S. and Italian students in the classroom. The Center is located on the Università degli Studi Roma Tre campus. The program begins in January 2011 and focuses on the humanities, social sciences and business.
In this new international education experience, American students interact directly with the Italian university community while taking courses in both English and Italian. The courses, composed of both Arcadia and Università degli Studi Roma Tre students, are offered in English. Study abroad students may take full advantage of the entire University curriculum as well as pursue studies in the Italian language.
“This is one of the most academically integrated programs between an American and Italian university, both of which share a common mission to advance global education.” says Dennis Dutschke, Founding Dean of Studies of The College of Global Studies. “The joint effort will enable us to create a truly international university community.”
Along with an Italian language component, program electives round out the semester experience. Elective
courses through the Arcadia University Center for Italian Studies integrate Rome and its storied history and heritage into the classroom experience and beyond through dynamic capstone projects, field study excursions, and co-curricular activities. Intensive courses that explore interdisciplinary themes such as museum collections, ancient and modern Mediterranean studies, food and culture, urban spaces, and performance and writing in Rome are designed to provide a context for academic and cultural reflection. Business students can take advantage of learning in the European context by taking focused courses in management, marketing and international business. Students also will be able to enroll directly in a wide range of courses taught in English and Italian at Università degli Studi Roma Tre, a comprehensive university with more than 40,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
Students in the Arcadia in Rome semester study abroad program are eligible for the Co-Curricular Learning Certificate and Mediterranean Studies Certificate.
