Arcadia University’s Genetic Counseling Program and the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund Presents John Crowley, Nov. 1
Glenside, Pa.—Monday, Oct. 4, 2010—Arcadia University’s Genetic Counseling Master’s Program in partnership with the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund will present an evening with John Crowley, activist and entrepreneur, on Monday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in Murphy Hall, Stiteler Auditorium. The event is open to the public. Arcadia University is located at 450 S. Easton Road, Glenside, Pa. Donations will be accepted for the KADMF. This organization provides financial support for the non-medical needs of children with critical and chronic illness.
Arcadia’s Genetic Counseling’s partnership with KADMF enables students in Arcadia’s genetic counseling program to understand how disease affects the family both financially and emotionally.
Crowley will speak about a neuromuscular genetic disorder known as Pompe’s disease which two of his three children have, and on the efforts made by him and his wife, Aileen to find an effective treatment. He has raised more than $100 million dollars to launch biotechnology companies to develop a treatment and will discuss how medical research is conducted and the fundraising efforts to meet their research.
Following his remarks at 7 p.m. there will be a screening of the major motion picture, Extraordinary Measures, based on this disease and the courage he and his family have gone through in their efforts to find a treatment. A reception and book signing will follow.
