Arcadia University Celebrates “A Knight of Giving; A Commitment to Service, Home and Abroad,” Dec. 12
Glenside, Pa.—Monday, Oct. 25, 2010—Arcadia University will hold a benefit dinner “A Knight of Giving; A Commitment to Service, Home and Abroad” on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. in Arcadia’s Grey Towers Castle. Founder and Executive Director of Hearts In Motion, Karen Scheeringa-Parra will be the evening’s keynote speaker.
“Each year a small group of Arcadia University students travel to Zacapa, Guatemala to participate in a service-learning trip through Hearts In Motion,” says, Lauren Schrift, a junior in the Honors Program who is organizing this event. “Hearts in Motion’s mission is to provide care and medical treatment to children, families, and communities in the United States as well as in Central and South America. The impact of the experience on each team member is at least as great as the impact on the lives of the people they touch. Many lives are changed.”
Scheeringa-Parra is a woman of incredible faith, has passion for the disadvantaged, and is a woman of seemingly unlimited energy. She is the mother of 12 children, 11 of whom are adopted, and has received many awards recognizing her service to others, including the Times Women of Merit.
“The evening’s festivities also will include a student art exhibit and auction, and musical performances, with proceeds benefitting Hearts In Motion,” says Schrift.
This event is open to the public, with admission by reservation only. For more information, call: 267-620-8280 or e-mail: aknightofgiving@gmail.com.
