Arcadia University Presents Author, Archeoastronomer and Expert on the Mayan Calendar Dr. Anthony F. Aveni, April 13
Glenside, Pa.—March 14, 2011—Arcadia University Lecture Series presents author, archeoastronomer and expert on the Mayan calendar and archeology, Dr. Anthony F. Aveni, on Wednesday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in Murphy Hall, Stiteler Auditorium. His lecture will be based on his new book, The End of Time: The Maya Mystery of 2012. The event is free and open to the public. Arcadia University is located at 450 S. Easton Road, Glenside, Pa.
Dr. Aveni is the author of more than two dozen books on ancient astronomy including, Uncommon Sense: Understanding Nature’s Truth Across Time and Culture (2006); The First Americans: Where They Came From and Who They Became (2005 Scholastic); People and The Sky: Our Ancestors and The Cosmos (2008); Between The Lines The Mystery of the Giant Ground Drawing of Ancient Nasca, Peru; and his current book, The End of Time: The Maya Mystery of 2012.
He is the Russell B. Colgate Professor of Astronomy and Anthropology, serving appointments in both the Departments at Colgate University where he has taught since 1963. He helped to develop the field of archaeoastronomy and now is considered one of the founders of Mesoamerican archaeoastronomy, in particular for his research in the astronomical history of the Maya Indians of ancient Mexico.
