Arcadia University to Host Community Wide Pack-A-Thon to Fight Hunger, Feb. 12

Glenside, Pa.—Jan. 12, 2012—Arcadia University and the Office of Community Service is host to the largest area Pack-A-Thon for Stop Hunger Now on Sunday Feb. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Dome on the campus of Arcadia located at 450 S. Easton Road, Glenside, Pa.

“Our goal for the event is to raise a minimum of $10,000 equal to 40,000 meals, so we are inviting the Arcadia community along with community members and organizations to join us in this worthwhile effort,” says Cindy Rubino, Coordinator of Community Service. “As a packer the more money raised (minimum of $25) means the more we can pack.  The Dome can hold over 800 people, so it is feasible to double our initial goal if we can engage 800 community participants.”

Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid around the world. It has sent over 34 million meals (25 cents apiece) to over 72 countries worldwide. The food is used in crisis situations and in nutrition programs for schools and orphanages in developing countries around the world. Stop Hunger Now has perfected the assembly process that combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 21 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets.

Chelsea DiMarco, an Arcadia University student coordinator, says “We can make a difference and we can achieve our goal of making 80,000 meals with your help.” For more information, contact the Community Service Office at 215-572-4000 or e-mail communityservice@arcadia.edu.
