Can you imagine a different version of yourself—a person similar to you in age, family background and upbringing, but facing a very different future? Rather than standing on the brink of an empowering and transformative college career, and a bright future beyond, this other person will serve a life sentence in prison.
For Wes Moore, this situation is not an imaginary one. Wes is an American success story. Born to a poor family in inner-city Baltimore, he went on to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated military veteran and successful business leader. But one day in late 2000, he learned of the “the other Wes Moore”—a boy of the same age, who grew up just blocks from him in Baltimore, with the same exact name. The other Wes Moore was a convicted murderer. So Wes asked himself these questions. His book documents his search for answers.
Moore has been featured on Meet the Press, CBS Sunday Morning, The Oprah Winfrey Show, NPR and WHYY’s Radio Times and other media outlets, including People Magazine, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.
