Arcadia University Again Among The Best Regional Universities in the North in U.S. News Rankings

GLENSIDE, Pa.,—Wednesday, September 12, 2012—Arcadia University continues to rank among the best Regional Universities in the North, according to the U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 edition of Best Colleges released today.

Arcadia University appears in several categories in the U.S. News rankings, including:

Regional Universities in the North—Arcadia University ranks 33 among the top 133 Regional Universities in the North, a ranking that heavily weights peer assessment, graduation rate and freshman retention rate. This position represents a slight rise since last year’s ranking.

Programs to Look For—Arcadia continues its historic preeminence as a leader in the Study Abroad category. This listing recognizes “programs at these schools involve substantial academic work abroad for credit.” Over 80 percent of the students graduating from Arcadia this past June studied in another country.

A+ Schools for B Students—Arcadia University remains recognized as one of the very best places in the nation for high school students who are willing to make the commitment to study and work hard. The regional university ranking and the first-to-second-year retention rate play a key role in this category, as is SAT scores and class ranking.

“We are, of course, pleased that U.S. News continues to rank us among the best, in many categories,” says Arcadia University President Carl (Tobey) Oxholm III. “These regional rankings continue to miss the point that in today’s world, trans-cultural and global education is a key to success after graduation. Study abroad continues to be thought of by U.S. News as an ‘add-on’, where it is today clearly an essential element of a quality college education. We as educators have a commitment to our students, who will be the leaders of tomorrow, and leaders need to have a globally integrated curriculum to contribute and prosper in our world economy. The world is our campus.”

“Although Arcadia continues to rank high on the U.S. News and World Reports annual rankings, the criteria and rubric used does not sufficiently capture the works of our exceptional faculty and staff.” says Dr. Steve O. Michael, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “In addition, these rankings do not reflect the pride of our students in their academic and co-curricular achievements and our collective institutional resolve to educate and prepare them to lead in an increasingly global society.”
