Arcadia University Appoints van de Velde Board Chair, Announces Trustee Updates

GLENSIDE, Pa. (Aug. 6, 2013) – Chris van de Velde, general manager of Awbury Arboretum and retired manager of Whitemarsh Township, has been appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees at Arcadia University. Arcadia also announced that Patricia DeBow, strategy consultant at Accenture, has been appointed Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Board, and Andrew Santagata, certified leasing specialist at Segal and Segal, Inc., has been named Recent Graduate Trustee.  

A member of the Board at Arcadia since 2007, van de Velde has had an extensive career in non-profit, municipal, and government management. He has held positions at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, New York City Department of Housing and Development (deputy commissioner), Delaware County Economic Development Center, Inc. (executive director), Chester Development Office (executive director), Borough of Yeadon (manager) and the University of Pennsylvania (director of real estate, president of the University City Associates, president of the Penn Tower Hotel). From 1991 to 2000, he served as principal of van de Velde and Associates, which provided consulting and advisory services for government, nonprofit, and utility organizations.

Van de Velde is past president of both the Philadelphia City Parks Association and the Association of University Real Estate Officials, and a former director of the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Atwater Kent Museum. He earned a bachelor’s degree from McPherson College in McPherson, Kan., and a master of governmental administration degree from the Fels Institute of Government of the University of Pennsylvania. Van de Velde is a member of the Lambda Alpha Land Economics Society, the Urban Land Institutes, and the International City/County Managers Associations.

A 2002 graduate of Arcadia, DeBow is in her second term as a Trustee, after serving as a Recent Graduate Trustee from 2007 to 2009. DeBow is an internal growth and strategy manager for Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services, and outsourcing company with clients in more than 120 countries. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics (summa cum laude) from Arcadia, and earned a master of business administration degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. DeBow has served on the national board of governors of the Human Rights Campaign, and previously worked as a senior research analyst at Towers Watson.

Santagata earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing from Arcadia in 2010. As a student, Santagata earned the “Arcadia University Campus Leader of the Year Award” in recognition of his outstanding achievements as president of the University’s Student Programming Board. Santagata’s commitment to civic engagement is evidenced through his work with the American Cancer Society, Special Olympics New Jersey, Habitat for Humanity, Arcadia University Community Service Organization, and the Community Emergency Response Team of Hopatcong, N.J.
