Dr. Kathleen K. Mangione, Professor of Physical Therapy, received the 2010 Lucy Blair Service Award for her exceptional contributions to the American Physical Therapy Association.

The Lucy Blair Service Award acknowledges and honors physical therapist members of APTA whose contributions to the association as a whole have been of exceptional value. It was established to honor the contributions of Lucy Blair, who served APTA from 1950-69.

A Board Certified Specialist in the area of Geriatric Physical Therapy, Mangione is a member of APTA, participating in sections on Geriatrics and Research. She investigates the effects of exercise in frail older adults, such as those who have suffered hip fractures. She has collaborated with the School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania to study exercise in nursing-home eligible, African American older adults in a Program of All-Inclusive Care.

“It’s a very humbling award,” says Margione. “Service to the profession is like working with older adults—you get more than you give.”
