Marchese Crowned Mr. Beaver 2011

The longstanding tradition of the Student Programming Board’s Mr. Beaver was again upheld on Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Kuch Center Gym. This year’s theme was “A Red Carpet Affair.” Students were encouraged to “dress to impress.” The gym was transformed into a “VIP” zone where the first 100 in line received a swag bag complete with Mr. Beaver sunglasses, among other items. Attendees then got to strut their stuff down the red carpet into the gym as paparazzi snapped photos.
This year’s event was hosted by Ross Mathews. Ross got his claim to fame as an intern for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He is now seen on Chelsea Lately, is the new spokesperson for Jenny Craig, and as we learned at the event, will soon have his own talk show. Ross was the perfect emcee for the event! Students loved how he interacted with the crowd between pageant events.
Six brave Arcadia men and their entourages competed to see who the best Mr. Beaver in Hollywood was. Brian Montgomery ’14 played the part of Britney Spears. He was able to use his Mohawk to his advantage by portraying when Britney shaved her head during his talent show segment. Damien Van Hart ’12 played the part of Lady Gaga. He had a great group of little monsters and his costumes were right on, complete with the Gaga bubble bathing suit and the Pink “Sputnik” ensemble for formal wear. Issac Israel ’14 showed everyone why Paris Hilton thinks everything is “hot.” Sean McGovern ’14 portrayed Beyonce. He was super accurate, including her baby bump in all of the pageant events.
Sanket Patel ’12 brought the party as Snooki. Sanket and his crew really played the part well as evidenced by his award for “Best Supporting Actor” as Mr. Beaver Runner Up 2011. “Best Actor” and your Mr. Beaver 2011, Marcous Marchese ’15, did indeed charm the audience as Marilyn Monroe. Judges were impressed by his ability to really embody Monroe down to her mannerisms and her famous singing of “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” and “Santa Baby.” Marcous changed the words to “Tobey Baby” to sing especially for President Carl (Tobey) Oxholm III, who was one of the judges. Other judges included Julie DiTrapano, Director of Student Engagement, Josh Stern, Associate Vice President and Dean of Students, and two students who were randomly selected by raffle.
Overall, it was a hugely successful event thanks to the hard work of the Student Programming Board. They start planning Mr. Beaver in the spring prior and spend countless hours ironing out all of the details.
