102 Volunteers Fill Trucks for Charitable Trusts During MLK Weekend
Arcadia University and the Office of Community Service made a difference in the community by hosting a “Shredding, eWaste and Repurposing Event” in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15 and 16.
“There was a great turn out by over 300 community members spread across Sunday and Monday who came to drop off their goods,” says Cindy Rubino, Arcadia’s Community Service Coordinator. “Between Sunday and Monday, the community kept our 102 volunteers so busy we barely felt the cold of the weekend.”
During the two-day event, NEXCUT Shredding processed more than 10 tons of shredding on campus. Volunteers collected 17,000 pounds of e-Waste; three trucks full of usable homegoods for Habitat For Humanity and St. Vincent de Paul; two vans of food for Philabundance; two van loads of supplies for the SPCA; two truckloads to Cradle to Crayons; two boxes of glasses for the Lions Club; and a van full of school supplies.
