Ryan Awarded Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Grant

Abbey Ryan, Visiting Assistant Professor of Art, has been awarded a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts: Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Project Stream Grant. The grant will provide support for Ryan’s April-May 2013 exhibition at 110 Church Gallery in historic Old City Philadelphia. The exhibition will feature Ryan’s new ink paintings, which explore the conceptual, visual and spiritual relationship between figure and ground, as well as contour and space. (Currently, two of Ryan’s new ink paintings are on view in the Arcadia University Art Gallery’s Faculty Exhibition 2012: On the Persistence of Drawing.)

Ryan’s work has been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine’s “Live Your Best Life-Women Who Make Beautiful Things,” Seth Godin’s bestseller, Linchpin: Are You Indispensible?,Brainard Carey’s Making It In the Art World, FOX’s Good Day Philadelphia, among many other publications. She completed undergraduate work in both science and art at Arcadia University and post-graduate work at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Art Students League of New York, and Hunter College, City University of New York. Ryan also teaches professional workshops nationally. Through her blog, which has had more than half a million visitors from more than 100 countries, Ryan’s paintings are in more than 800 private and public collections around the world.
