Arcadia Professor Presents Free Lecture on Tacita Dean and the Soul of Film, March 20
Dr. Shekhar Deshpande, Professor and Chair of Media and Communication at Arcadia University, presents “Tacita Dean, Celluloid, and the Soul of the Film: Analog and Its Other”on Wednesday, March 20. The free lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Commons Great Room, with a reception at 6 p.m.
Exploring examples of Dean’s projects, such as her 2011 work, FILM, and her new film, JG, Deshpande will discuss how digital film is threatening the existence of celluloid. He also will address how digital filmmaking jeopardizes film’s essence, honesty to reality and soul.
Deshpande’s lecture continues the University’s celebration of Dean, the internationally acclaimed British born, Berlin-based artist. JG, which is 26.5 minutes long, will be screened before and after Deshpande’s lecture.
