Pennsylvania Physician General Dr. Rachel Levine speaks at the School of Education’s Creating Safe and Welcoming Schools Conference on Sep. 30. Each year, the conference offers educators, community leaders, families, and students the opportunity to collaborate and learn to create safe, affirming spaces for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/gender nonconforming, and questioning/queer students.

This year’s conference focused on the needs of transgender and gender nonconforming students. Dr. Levine, one of the few openly transgender women working in government and the first transgender physician general, delivered the keynote address.
