Author Harriet Levin Millan and Michael Majok Kuch ’10, a graduate of Arcadia University’s International Peace and Conflict Resolution program and one of the Lost Boys of the Sudan, visited campus on Tuesday, Nov. 15 during International Education Week to discuss How Fast Can You Run, a novel based on Kuch’s experiences as a refugee in the Second Sudanese Civil War.

Published in October, How Fast Can You Run follows Kuch’s escape from southern Sudan, cross-country trek to refugee camps, and journey across three continents to find his mother. Millan, director of the Writing and Publishing Certificate program at Drexel University, connected with Kuch when her creative writing class was selected to interview Sudanese immigrants for One Book, One Philadelphia.

In addition to How Fast Can You Run, Millan developed the Reunion Project, an annual fundraising event that seeks to reunite Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan with their mothers living abroad.
