Arcadia University will host the following events for Women’s History Month that celebrate the empowerment of women and the shared experiences they carry.

Wednesday, March 1
Sister Songs, Psalms, and Sonnets: Open Mic for Arcadia’s Women
Commons Meeting Rooms 2 and 3, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Showcase your singing, spoken word, and instrumental talents. Light refreshments will be served, including alcohol (valid ID required for all orders). Those interested in participating can contact the Office of Institutional Diversity.

Friday, March 3
First Fridays in the Castle Series
Grey Towers Castle, noon to 1 p.m.

Dr. Elizabeth Murphy (soprano) and Stefanie Watson (pianist) will perform works by women composers Anne Boleyn, Barbara Strozzi, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Clara Schumann, Pauline Viardot-Garcia, Amy Beach, May Aufderheide, and Lori Laitman at noon in the Castle Rose Room. The Society for Castle Restoration will display castle artifacts from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mirror Room. Free and open to the public, refreshments will be available after the concert.

Tuesday, March 7
For the Women Women’s History Month Meeting
Dilworth Hall 107, 8 p.m.

For the Women student organization invites community members to discuss the history and significance of Women’s History Month for students, faculty, and staff. For more information, contact Octavia Geiger.

Wednesday, March 8
Women in Various Occupations
Commons Meeting Rooms 1 and 2, 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Celebrate and recognize women throughout the Arcadia community, as panelists Cristina Cintron-Marsh, assistant director of undergraduate studies, Natasha Patterson, adjunct professor in Public Health, and Heather Horowitz, director of engagement and new student programs, discuss how they overcame obstacles and succeeded in their careers.
