Associate Professor and Associate Director of Genetic Counseling Dr. Laura Conway ’99M, PhD, CGC was elected to the Board of Directors of the Association of Genetic Counseling Program Directors (AGCPD). Her two-year term as secretary and executive committee member begins in January.

The AGCPD is a national organization that “promotes collaboration between genetic counseling program directors to facilitate recruitment, admissions, education, and guidance of genetic counseling students and to nurture new program development.” The organization represents over 60 institutions, including 40 accredited genetic counseling training programs and 20 institutions that are considering or actively planning new genetic counseling training programs.

The AGCPD also addresses changes in genetic counseling and graduate education, and evaluates and establishes procedures shared by programs across the country, such as the new implementation of the National Matching System, which will match institutions and applicants based on interviews and rankings.

Dr. Conway, a graduate of the Arcadia’s Genetic Counseling program, has been a faculty member since 2004. She has served on multiple committees of the AGCPD and as secretary/treasurer of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NGSC) Board of Directors. She is also the academic co-director of Online Review Course in Medical Genetics and Genetic Counseling.
