CCEC Collects Writing Supplies for Immigrant Detention Centers

By Caitlin Burns | August 30, 2018

This year, make a difference with Arcadia’s Community and Civic Engagement Center (CCEC), which is collecting writing supplies through Oct. 13 to support the Stamp Out Despair campaign First Friends, an organization aiding immigrants in detention centers in New York and New Jersey.

The campaign provides supplies to participating detainees and pairs them with a penpal to provide hope and friendship, a positive alternative to the limited relationships in detention centers.

Supplies needed include forever stamps, notecards, lined paper, envelopes, 2-ply folders, pens and pencils, greeting cards, softcover Spanish books, and English and Spanish board games. Donations can be dropped off at Grey Towers Castle or at CCEC, located at 2005 Church Road.

Interested in writing a letter for Stamp Out Despair? CCEC will host letter-writing events throughout the fall semester.
