Brews n’ Bites branding redesign by Fahringer

Studio Art graduate Leo Fahringer ’19 was featured alongside several graphic designers in a Graphic Mama article highlighting graphic and logo design trends that are expected to be popular in 2020.

As part of a project for a course at Arcadia, Fahringer redesigned the logo for independent coffee shop Brews N’ Bites in Danville, Pa., which began as an internet cafe in 2003. The inspiration for the redesign, Fahringer says, was the aesthetic of 1960s beat poet typography and illustration.

The design was featured on the blog as an exemplar of retro design in modern logos, which is becoming a trend not only in logo design but in graphic design as a whole. Graphic Mama claims that, in 2020, “the retro design is making a huge comeback and it looks more modern than ever.”

“It feels so freaking radical to have work that I made for a school project featured alongside professional graphic designers,” said Fahringer, who received the University’s 2019 Spruance-Daumier Award for Excellence in Art and 2018 Student Biennial Gallery Prize.

Fahringer works with a variety of media—illustration, embroidery, and more traditional forms of design—to “explore themes of gender, sexuality, race, and spirituality.” At Arcadia, his illustration was also featured on the cover of the University’s Biology Thesis Catalog.
