Earn an M.Ed. and/or Certification in Social Studies Education
This program is designed to allow students seeking certification in secondary areas to attain a master’s degree concurrently. The degree is not required for certification, and individual requirements for certification may vary based on academic experience. The program must be planned with an adviser to ensure that degree and/or certification requirements are satisfied.
If you have a bachelor's degree in any subject area, you are eligible to apply to Arcadia's School of Education and prepare for a career in education.
Attend Part- or Full-Time
You can complete the program part- or full-time, with evening classes offered 4:30-10 p.m. Monday through Friday during each 14-16 week semester. There are also a few online courses. Simply choose how many courses you'd like to register for each semester with the help of your academic adviser.
Full-time status for graduate students is nine or more credit hours per semester. Most students register for at least two courses a semester, allowing them to complete a master's degree and/or teacher certification within 18 to 24 months.

You also have the option of customizing your master’s program by including one or more Arcadia certificates or a credential.
Teacher Certification Interstate Agreements Information
Pennsylvania has signed the Interstate Agreement (NASDTEC) with most other states/jurisdictions based upon mutually agreed-upon conditions. The contract provides for acceptance of state-approved educator preparation programs between certain states to facilitate educator mobility. All jurisdictions that participate in the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement may choose to have additional requirements for educators who are coming from another jurisdiction.
IMPORTANT NOTE TO PROSPECTIVE TEACHER CANDIDATES: Each state is responsible for its own certification/licensure requirements, which may change without notice to NASDTEC or your university's certification officers or your state's office of certification. You must contact the office of certification in any state to which you may be relocating to get the most accurate information on certification requirements.
The NASDTEC Interstate Agreement facilitates the mobility of educators among the states and other jurisdictions that are members of NASDTEC and have signed the Agreement. Although there may be conditions applicable to individual jurisdictions, the Agreement makes it possible for an educator who completed an approved program and/or who holds a certificate or license in one jurisdiction to earn a certificate or license in another state or jurisdiction.
