Office of International Programs – China Preview Update

By Maria Tanner | January 28, 2020
Good morning China Preview students,

I want to provide an update for our Preview course and March travel, based upon the coronavirus outbreak in China.  The December 2019 outbreak of this new virus originated in the Hubei provincial city of Wuhan, but the reported number of confirmed cases in China and elsewhere around the globe continues to increase; the U.S. State Department yesterday issued a level three travel advisory for U.S. citizens to “reconsider travel” to the People’s Republic of China. In addition, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a Level 3 travel notice for China advising travelers to “avoid non-essential travel to all of China”.

In light of these ratings and out of an abundance of caution, the University has made the decision to cancel China Preview for 2020. We know that this may be  disappointing, but we’ll now do our best to reassign students to an alternative choice of Preview course as selected on the original Preview application, wherever possible. If you would prefer to opt out of Preview in 2020 and participate in China Preview or an alternative Preview course in the spring semester of 2021, that is also an option and a refund will be issued for the 2020 course.
An additional email will be sent to the campus community from Student Health Services that provides additional precautionary measures for this flu season. The coronavirus can exhibit some similar symptoms with the flu.  Please contact SHS via shs@arcadia.edu or 215-572-2966 if you have any questions or concerns.

I will be in touch asap  with each of you about an alternative Preview course and, of course, feel free to contact me via finnj@arcadia.edu or at 215 572 2867 about a Preview course.

Best regards,
