Modern Knights: Medievalism in Children's Literature during the Great War

Curated by Gabriella Rymshaw, Class of 2019, this exhibition explores the medieval imagery often found in children's literature that was popular in the years leading up to the outbreak of the Great War (1914-1918). Such imagery promoted a sense of patriotism and duty that had an influence on the consumers of these books: boys and young men who eventually became the soldiers in the conflict that shaped course of modern history.

This exhibition is supported by University Archives and Special Collections and the Apprenticeship Program in the Department of Art and Design.
