This is an effort from the Office of Study Away and the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion STAMP Team to highlight voices from students of color along with their experiences, stories and advice from their own study abroad experiences.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to amplify and showcase the stories and experiences of students of color from their time abroad in order to (i) raise awareness about the resources and support for students of color participating in study abroad programs, (ii) create more representation for students of color when it comes to studying abroad, and (iii) encourage other students of color to pursue studying abroad and support them throughout the application process. According to the Institute of International Education, only 22.2% of students abroad identify as BIPOC. By uplifting the voices of students of color, we are hoping to help destigmatize study abroad for students of color as well as show BIPOC students that studying abroad is not only an option but also very possible.
