In this talk and in her book Love and Liberation: Humanitarian Work in Ethiopia’s Somali Region (Cornell Univ. Press,), Lauren Carruth draws on ethnographic research with Somalis to question the mythopoesis and the dominance of Western humanitarian traditions, and to describe an alternative, subaltern humanitarian epistemology.
